A dynamic and diverse blend of historic and ground-breaking places, people and experiences define Connecticut. From the verdant Litchfield Hills in the north to the jagged Mystic Country coastline in the south – you can drive from the mountains to the sea in less than two hours. Along the way, you’ll find scenic small towns with a quaint New England vibe and vibrant cities filled with hip hop, the arts, and innovation — including Stamford, New Haven and Hartford.

With over 350 arts organizations, Connecticut is alive with the arts — from nationally renowned art galleries and museums to award-winning theaters and cultural events, from historical sites and major concert venues to local galleries, artists collectives and community fairs. The arts are at the very core of our communities as shown in our slogan, “Small state, big heart, great art!”

AIR in Connecticut is a program of the Connecticut Office of the Arts. COA’s mission is to animate a culture of creativity across Connecticut by supporting arts-making and arts participation for all people. Our goal is to inspire, empower, educate and transform. We believe the arts are a human right, and we envision a world where the arts, in all forms, are embedded in everyday life.

Using READI as a lens (Relevance, Equity, Access, Diversity and Inclusion) the Office of the Arts invests in Connecticut artists and arts organizations and encourages the public’s participation as creators, learners, supporters, and audience members. We strive to connect all people to the arts to build vital communities across the state where artistic expression and creation is centered. COA is located within the Department of Economic and Community Development (DECD) and is committed to developing and resourcing our creative economy infrastructure.

CT AIR Facilitators will work as a cohort under the auspices of COA to facilitate ABBBA and SHIFT workshops across the state that are community-driven and that focus on helping municipalities build their local creative economy using the AIR program strategies to achieve their goals.
