Thalia Castro is a Family Development Specialist at New Opportunities of Greater Torrington, offering a variety of social service programs designed to eliminate poverty and assist people in need. Thalia’s job is to increase the self-sufficiency of my customers and support their move out of poverty toward a more middle-class lifestyle. Thalia was born in Ecuador and moved to USA at 12, and did not not speak English. Thalia became immersed in the English speaking world by taking ESL classes in school, and through interactions in the community and American Television. Arriving from Ecuador, first to New York then back to Ecuador, and finally settling in Torrington CT, has provided Thalia the ability to adapt, succeed and embrace diversity. Thalia wants to bring this experience to her 8 year old son and to Latino families looking for solutions and assistance.
